Amrita Vidyalayam, Chavakkad celebrated Reading day on 19/06/2026 with great enthusiasm and active participation from students and teachers.
The programme was organized to promote the habit of reading and to honour the contributions of P N Panicker,the father of the library movement in kerala.
The celebration began with a brief introduction highlighting the importance of reading in developing knowledge ,creativity,and critical thinking. As part of the programme ,students visited the residence of renowned Malayalam writer Madhavikutty(kamala das) and learned about her life and literary contributions. A Roleplay competition was conducted,where students portrayed famous literary characters and authors.The event encouraged creativity and improved students' communication skill.
Students were also asked to read a book and prepare a book review,which helped them develop reading comprehension and analytical skills.Many students shared their reviews and reading experiences with their classmates.
Another activity involved students bringing their favourite books to class and introducing them to their friends.This created an opportunity for students to exchange ideas and discover new books. A Bookmark making activity was organized, and students designed colourful and creative bookmarks with reading related messages and art work.
The celebration also included a poster making competition based on the theme of reading.Students prepared attractive posters conveying the importance of books and reading habits. A two minute speech on any book activity was conducted,giving students a platform to express their thoughts on their favourite books and authors.
The reading day celebration was grand success.The various activities inspired students to develop a lifelong love for reading and reinforced the message "Read today,Lead tomorrow"
