Amrita Vidyalayam, Thuckalay, observed World Environment Day with a Bee-Flora Planting Drive organised by AYUDH (Awaken Youth Unite for Dharma), the youth movement guided by Mata Amritanandamayi Devi (Amma).
The programme was inaugurated by Dr. Reshmi N. Nair, Assistant Medical Officer, Government Ayurveda Medical College & Hospital, Nagercoil, in the presence of Smt. Sindhu V. J., Principal, Amrita Vidyalayam, Thuckalay. Teachers, AYUDH coordinators and students participated in the programme.
Speaking on the occasion, the chief guest said, "Protecting pollinators is crucial for maintaining ecological balance. It is heartening to see students taking part in activities that promote biodiversity conservation and environmental responsibility."
As part of the drive, students planted 75 Parijat (Night-flowering Jasmine) saplings, which support bees and other pollinators. The plantation activity was carried out along a stretch of approximately 500 metres within and around the school campus.
The initiative helped create a greener and more pollinator-friendly environment while raising awareness about biodiversity conservation and sustainable living practices.
The programme highlighted the important role of bees and other pollinators in maintaining ecological balance and food security, while encouraging students to adopt environmentally responsible practices in their daily lives.
