Amrita Vidyalayam, Tiruppur, observed World Environment Day with a Bee-Flora Planting Drive organised by AYUDH (Awaken Youth Unite for Dharma), the youth movement guided by Mata Amritanandamayi Devi (Amma).
The programme was inaugurated by Diganth Vijayan R., Software Engineer, AYUDH Member, Chennai, and an alumnus of the school. The event was held in the presence of Mrs. Chitra N., Principal, Amrita Vidyalayam, Tiruppur. Teachers, AYUDH coordinators and students participated in the programme.
Speaking on the occasion, the chief guest said, "Protecting pollinators is essential for agriculture and food security. It is heartening to see students actively participating in initiatives that support biodiversity and environmental sustainability."
As part of the drive, students planted 15 saplings, including Neem, Mango, Shoe Flower (Hibiscus), Marigold, Badam, Tulasi, Pomegranate and Karpooravalli, which support bees and other pollinators. The plantation activity was carried out along a stretch of approximately 200 metres within the school campus.
A total of 53 participants, including students, teachers and AYUDH volunteers, took part in the initiative. The programme helped raise awareness about environmental conservation, biodiversity and sustainable living practices while encouraging students to actively contribute towards protecting nature.
The initiative also highlighted the important role of bees and other pollinators in maintaining ecological balance and ensuring food security.
