In connection with World Biodiversity Day observed on 22nd May 2026, the Amrita Butterfly Garden was inaugurated as a beautiful and meaningful initiative promoting environmental awareness and ecological conservation. The project was undertaken by the OISCA International Women's Chapter, Palakkad with the vision of nurturing biodiversity and encouraging a deeper connection with nature among students and the community. The inauguration of the butterfly garden marked a significant step towards creating awareness about the importance of preserving ecosystems and protecting the delicate balance of nature. Butterflies are considered important indicators of a healthy environment, and the establishment of the garden serves as a living example of sustainable and eco-friendly practices. The beautifully designed garden, filled with nectar-rich flowering plants and butterfly-friendly vegetation, was created to attract various species of butterflies and other pollinators. The initiative not only enhances the beauty of the campus but also acts as an educational space where students can observe, learn, and understand the importance of biodiversity firsthand. The programme highlighted the urgent need to protect nature and conserve plant and animal life for future generations. Through speeches and awareness messages shared during the event, participants were reminded that every small effort towards environmental conservation contributes to the wellbeing of the planet. The initiative by the OISCA International Women's Chapter, Palakkad was highly appreciated for promoting environmental responsibility and inspiring young minds to become caretakers of nature. The butterfly garden stands as a symbol of harmony between humans and the environment and reflects the importance of creating green spaces in educational institutions. Students, teachers, and guests enthusiastically participated in the programme and pledged to contribute towards protecting biodiversity through simple yet meaningful actions such as planting trees, reducing pollution, and conserving natural resources. The inauguration concluded with a message of hope and responsibility, reminding everyone that preserving biodiversity is not merely a duty but a commitment towards sustaining life on Earth. “When we protect nature, nature protects us. Every butterfly in flight reminds us of the beauty and balance of life.”
