Amrita Vidyalayam, Tirunelveli, observed World Environment Day with a Bee-Flora Planting Drive organised by AYUDH (Awaken Youth Unite for Dharma), the youth movement guided by Mata Amritanandamayi Devi (Amma).
The programme was inaugurated by Shri K. Venkateshwaran, Principal, Amrita Vidyalayam, Tirunelveli. Teachers, AYUDH coordinators and students participated in the programme.
Speaking on the occasion, the chief guest said, "Creating pollinator-friendly habitats is a simple yet effective way to strengthen local biodiversity. Initiatives like this help students understand the importance of protecting nature and preserving ecological balance."
As part of the drive, students planted five saplings, including Hibiscus, Red Oleander and Champak, which support bees and other pollinators. The plantation activity was carried out along a stretch of approximately 10 metres within the school campus.
The initiative helped raise awareness about environmental conservation and highlighted the important role of bees and other pollinators in maintaining ecological balance and food security. It also encouraged participants to adopt environmentally responsible practices in their daily lives.
