Amrita Vidyalayam, Nallampalayam, observed World Environment Day with a Bee-Flora Plantation Initiative organised by AYUDH (Awaken Youth Unite for Dharma), the youth movement guided by Mata Amritanandamayi Devi (Amma).
The programme was inaugurated by Shri R. Thirukumaran, Agriculturist, Danshikaa Organics, a company engaged in supplying seaweed-based micronutrient products for a variety of crops. The event was held in the presence of Mangayarkarasi L., Principal, Amrita Vidyalayam, Nallampalayam. Teachers, AYUDH coordinators and students participated in the programme.
Speaking on the occasion, the chief guest said, "Environmental stewardship is best nurtured through awareness and action. Encouraging young minds to appreciate biodiversity and the importance of native plant species is an investment in a greener and more sustainable future."
As part of the initiative, the school identified 10 native saplings for planting, including Sorgam, Magizham (Spanish Cherry), Athi (Fig), Mara Konrai, Pungan, Evergreen and Indian Coral Tree species. The plantation drive aimed to promote biodiversity, create pollinator-friendly habitats and encourage environmental responsibility among students.
The programme engaged nearly 950 students and helped raise awareness about biodiversity conservation, pollinator-friendly habitats and sustainable environmental practices.
The initiative highlighted the vital role of native trees and pollinators in maintaining ecological balance and encouraged students to become active participants in protecting the environment.
