Amrita Vidyalayam, Erode, observed World Environment Day with a Bee-Flora Planting Drive organised by AYUDH (Awaken Youth Unite for Dharma), the youth movement guided by Mata Amritanandamayi Devi (Amma).
The programme was inaugurated by Dr. Mekala P., Assistant Director of Horticulture, in the presence of Jayachitra C., Principal, Amrita Vidyalayam, Erode. Teachers, AYUDH coordinators and students participated in the programme.
Speaking on the occasion, the chief guest said, "Environmental protection is not a one-day activity but a lifelong commitment. Initiatives like this encourage students to develop sustainable habits and a deeper appreciation for nature."
As part of the drive, students planted eight Pongamia pinnata (Pungam) saplings, which support biodiversity and contribute to a greener environment. The plantation activity was carried out along a stretch of approximately 50 metres within the campus.
A total of 125 participants, including students, teachers and AYUDH volunteers, took part in the initiative. The programme helped raise awareness about environmental conservation, biodiversity and sustainable living practices while encouraging students to actively participate in protecting nature.
The initiative also highlighted the important role of pollinators and native plant species in maintaining ecological balance and supporting a healthy environment.
