Amrita Vidyalayam, Kanyakumari, observed World Environment Day with a Bee-Flora Planting Drive organised by AYUDH (Awaken Youth Unite for Dharma), the youth movement guided by Mata Amritanandamayi Devi (Amma).
The programme was inaugurated by Mr. Arumugam, Assistant Director, Department of Horticulture, Kanyakumari, in the presence of Mrs. Jeyasri, Principal, Amrita Vidyalayam, Kanyakumari. Teachers, AYUDH coordinators and students participated in the programme.
Speaking on the occasion, the chief guest said, "Creating green spaces and protecting pollinators are essential steps towards preserving biodiversity. Initiatives like these help students understand their role in environmental conservation and encourage them to become responsible stewards of nature."
As part of the drive, students planted 10 saplings to support bees and other pollinators and to promote biodiversity within the school campus. The initiative contributed to creating a greener and more pollinator-friendly environment while raising awareness about environmental sustainability.
A total of 140 participants took part in the programme. The event highlighted the important role of bees and other pollinators in maintaining ecological balance and food security, while encouraging students to adopt environmentally responsible practices in their daily lives.
The programme reinforced the importance of collective action in protecting the environment and building a sustainable future.
