Amrita Vidyalayam, Karur, observed World Environment Day with a Bee-Flora Planting Drive organised by AYUDH (Awaken Youth Unite for Dharma), the youth movement guided by Mata Amritanandamayi Devi (Amma).
The programme was inaugurated by Dr. P. Bhuvaneswari, Primary Coordinator and TGT, Amrita Vidyalayam, Karur, in the presence of Samundeswari R. S., Principal, Amrita Vidyalayam, Karur. Teachers, AYUDH coordinators and students participated in the programme.
Speaking on the occasion, the chief guest said, "Environmental conservation is not limited to planting trees; it also involves nurturing and protecting them. Initiatives like this help cultivate environmental responsibility and a deeper appreciation for nature among students."
As part of the drive, students planted 22 saplings, including Pungan (Indian Beech), Jamun, Holy Basil (Tulasi) and Magizham (Spanish Cherry). The plantation activity was carried out along a stretch of approximately 100 metres within the school campus.
A total of 360 participants took part in the programme. The initiative helped raise awareness about biodiversity conservation and the importance of pollinator-friendly habitats while encouraging students to adopt environmentally responsible practices in their daily lives.
The programme also highlighted the vital role of bees and other pollinators in maintaining ecological balance and supporting food security, inspiring students to become active contributors to environmental sustainability.
