Amrita Vidyalayam, Trichy, observed World Environment Day with a Bee-Flora Planting Drive organised by AYUDH (Awaken Youth Unite for Dharma), the youth movement guided by Mata Amritanandamayi Devi (Amma).
The programme was inaugurated by Sri Raghavan, Retired ONGC Engineer, in the presence of Mrs. Lalitha Sampath, Principal, Amrita Vidyalayam, Trichy. Teachers, AYUDH coordinators and students participated in the programme.
Speaking on the occasion, the chief guest said, "Every tree and flowering plant contributes to a healthier environment. Initiatives like these help students understand the value of biodiversity and inspire them to become responsible custodians of nature."
As part of the drive, students planted 25 saplings within the school campus, including Neem, Hibiscus, Tulasi, Money Plant and a variety of herbal plants for a kitchen garden. The initiative helped create a greener and more pollinator-friendly environment while promoting biodiversity conservation and sustainable living practices.
A total of 1,100 participants took part in the programme. The event raised awareness about environmental protection and highlighted the important role of bees and other pollinators in maintaining ecological balance and food security.
The programme encouraged students to actively contribute towards conservation efforts and adopt environmentally responsible practices in their daily lives.
