National Handloom Day 2024 - Thiruvalla
Date: 2024-08-07

National Handloom Day, 07.08.2024…Celebrating the threads that tell the story of India’s rich heritage… A salute to the hands that weave the soul of our culture…
On National Handloom Day, our students visited a weaving unit at Thukalassery, to learn about and appreciate traditional textile weaving techniques.
As part of our experiential learning program, our students had the enriching opportunity to visit a local weaving unit — a field trip designed to connect classroom knowledge with real-world craftsmanship.
The visit began with a warm welcome by the skilled artisans, who introduced the students to the age-old art of handloom weaving. Students observed the entire process — from spinning the yarn to setting up the loom, dyeing the threads, and finally, weaving intricate patterns. The rhythmic sounds of the looms and the vibrant colors of handwoven fabrics left them in awe!
The artisans also shared their stories, challenges, and the cultural significance of their craft, allowing students to appreciate the dedication and skill that go into every piece of handloom cloth. Interactive Q&A sessions helped students engage deeply, asking thoughtful questions and even trying their hands at basic weaving techniques.
This eye-opening experience not only fostered respect for traditional arts and local industries but also emphasized the value of sustainable, handmade products. The visit left students inspired and informed, deepening their understanding of India’s rich textile heritage.
