Neglecting the bad weather and heavy rain on the day the festival of Onam was celebrated with immense joy and festive mood at Amrita Vidyalayam, Mananthavady. on 29 August 2025. The entire school was filled with festive spirit as students and teachers came together with traditional Kerala dress to honour our most cherished cultural tradition.
The celebrations began with the auspicious lighting of the lamp, followed by a soulful prayer. A vibrant Pookkalam (floral carpet) was laid at the entrance of the school. A class wise competition of Pookkalam (floral carpet) of different classes, symbolizing prosperity and harmony of the festival. The presence of “Mahabali” added a touch of excitement, reminding everyone of the legendary king’s golden era of peace and equality. KG Children were dressed like Mahabali shared his blessings to all.
The cultural programmes by the students were truly captivating. Performances included Thiruvathirakali of staff and students, folk songs, Vanchipattu, narrated the story of Onam and the values of togetherness and love. Traditional games like Uriyadi, tug-of-war, and musical chairs brought laughter and cheer among both students and staff. A delicious Onam Sadhya was organised for all students and staff.
Teachers also participated enthusiastically, and their involvement made the celebration even more lively. The highlight of the day was the Onam message delivered by the principal, who emphasized the importance of unity, compassion, and sharing in today’s world.
The entire programme reflected the values of Amrita Vidyalayam -blending cultural heritage with a spirit of love, service, and harmony. The Onam celebration concluded with heartfelt wishes for happiness, prosperity, and peace for all.
