Amrita Vidyalayam, Ramanathapuram, observed World Environment Day with a Bee-Flora Planting Drive organised by AYUDH (Awaken Youth Unite for Dharma), the youth movement guided by Mata Amritanandamayi Devi (Amma).
The programme was inaugurated by Smt. Uma Maheswari, M.E. Graduate Teacher and Eco-Lover, in the presence of Mrs. R. Vijayalakshmi, Principal, Amrita Vidyalayam, Ramanathapuram. Teachers, AYUDH coordinators and students participated in the programme.
Speaking on the occasion, the chief guest said, "Every small step taken towards protecting nature contributes to a healthier and more sustainable future. Activities like these help students develop environmental awareness and a lifelong commitment to conservation."
As part of the drive, students planted six saplings, including Neem, Pungai (Indian Beech) and Guava, within an area of approximately one cent on the school campus. The initiative helped create a greener and more pollinator-friendly environment while promoting biodiversity conservation.
A total of 13 participants took part in the programme. The event raised awareness about environmental protection, sustainable living and the important role of pollinators in maintaining ecological balance and food security.
The programme also encouraged students to become responsible stewards of nature and actively contribute towards building a sustainable future.
