Amrita Vidyalayam, Karur, observed Guru Purnima with profound reverence, blending tradition with timeless values through a heart-touching celebration of Maatṛu Vandhana – Padha Pooja for Parents on July 4th. This spiritually uplifting occasion paid homage not only to the revered Guru Parampara but also to the mother and father – the child’s first and lifelong gurus.
The programme commenced with Vedic chants and a discourse on the significance of Guru Purnima, celebrated in honour of Maharishi Vyasa, the compiler of the Vedas and author of the Mahabharata. Students were reminded of the sacred role a guru plays in dispelling ignorance and illuminating the path of truth. In alignment with this ethos, the school extended the reverence of guruhood to parents, recognizing their unconditional love, sacrifices, and moral guidance as divine.
As part of Maatṛu Vandhana, students reverently performed Padha Pooja, washing the feet of their parents, adorning them with flowers, applying sandal paste, and offering heartfelt prayers. The ritual, steeped in humility and devotion, unfolded in an atmosphere filled with soulful bhajans, emotional reflections, and divine vibrations.
Many parents were visibly moved as their children bowed before them, offering gratitude not just with words, but with sacred actions rooted in Indian spiritual tradition. The event became a poignant reminder that true education transcends academics-it nurtures reverence, gratitude, and dharmic values.
The celebration left an indelible impact on all present, forging deeper bonds between parents and children and reaffirming the school’s commitment to holistic education rooted in Sanatana Dharma and universal love.
