International Literacy Day was celebrated at our school on 8 September 2026 with the aim of highlighting the importance of literacy, reading habits, vocabulary development, and effective communication among students.
The programme commenced with a prayer, followed by the lighting of the ceremonial lamp. A warm welcome was extended to the gathering, setting a meaningful tone for the celebrations.
A variety of programmes were organised to emphasise the significance of literacy and language learning. Students participated enthusiastically in recitation, speech, and quiz competitions, showcasing their knowledge, confidence, and communication skills.
A special house-wise vocabulary-building activity was also conducted. Students contributed new and meaningful words to enhance their vocabulary, and the completed activity was creatively displayed on the school notice board for everyone to appreciate and learn from.
As part of the celebration, a “Read-a-thon” was conducted to encourage students to develop a regular reading habit and cultivate a love for books. The activity provided students with an opportunity to read extensively and experience the joy and benefits of reading.
The celebration was both informative and engaging, successfully creating awareness about the importance of literacy and encouraging students to become confident readers, learners, and communicators. The programme concluded with a sense of enthusiasm and renewed interest in reading and learning.
