Karkidaka Food Fest The month of Karkidakam, also known as Ramayana month, holds special significance in Kerala’s cultural and health traditions. It is a time traditionally associated with rejuvenation and healing, as the heavy monsoon often weakens the body. To counter this, Karkidaka Kanji—a medicinal porridge made with Ayurvedic herbs and rice—is commonly consumed to boost immunity and maintain health. To celebrate this rich tradition and create awareness among students, we organized a Karkidaka Food Fest in the school premises. It aimed to introduce students to the cultural and health benefits associated with the month of Karkidakam.

Dish Preparation(Class-wise): Each class from primary to high school was assigned a specific traditional dish linked to the Karkidakam season. The students, with guidance from teachers and parents, prepared these dishes and brought them to school. The prepared dishes were beautifully arranged and displayed in the school prayer hall. Students explained the significance and ingredients of each dish to fellow students, encouraging peer learning.

A specially curated informative video on the importance of Karkidaka Kanji and its medicinal value were shown to the students. The event turned out to be a delightful learning experience. Students enthusiastically took part in all the activities. They thoroughly enjoyed the food fest and gained valuable insights into Kerala’s traditional health practices.
