National Handloom Day is celebrated annually on August 7th in India to honor the handloom industry and its significant contribution to the country's socio-economic development. This day commemorates the launch of the Swadeshi Movement in 1905, which promoted domestic products, including handlooms, as part of India's independence struggle. It helps to raise awareness about the importance of handloom and its cultural heritage, and to promote the economic empowerment of handloom weavers.
As part of the celebrations, a field trip was organized for students of Std VIII to the " Handloom weavers Cooperative society " at Bhagavathinada. Students had the unique opportunity to witness the traditional process of weaving, dyeing, and designing of fabrics. The artisans explained the intricate techniques and shared the challenges faced by the handloom sector. This experience helped the students understand the value of handmade products and the importance of promoting indigenous crafts.
In addition, a notice board was beautifully decorated by the students with posters, articles, and quotes highlighting the significance of handlooms.
The celebration not only deepened the students’ appreciation for India’s cultural traditions but also encouraged them to support and promote handloom products in their daily lives.
