Amrita Vidyalayam, Koyilandy, celebrated the vibrant festival of Onam on 21st September 2026 with great enthusiasm, joy, and festive fervour. The celebration beautifully reflected the rich cultural heritage and traditional spirit of Kerala, bringing together students and staff in an atmosphere of happiness, unity, togetherness, and tradition. 

The programme commenced with the lighting of the ceremonial lamp by our beloved Principal Ma’am, marking an auspicious beginning to the celebrations. 

One of the major attractions of the day was the colourful Pookkalam Competition, organised class-wise and section-wise. Students participated with great enthusiasm and displayed their creativity, artistic skills, teamwork, and coordination by designing beautiful and vibrant floral carpets. The colourful Pookkalams added a festive charm to the entire campus. 

The celebration was further enlivened by a variety of traditional and fun-filled games and activities. Students enthusiastically participated in games such as Musical Chairs, Lemon and Spoon Race, Sundarikku Pottu Thodal, and several other entertaining activities. The campus echoed with laughter, excitement, and cheerful participation. 

The arrival of Maveli, Vamanan, and Pulikkali added a special charm to the celebrations. The children welcomed them with great excitement and happiness. The presence of Maveli beautifully reminded everyone of the cherished Onam tradition and the belief that Maveli visits his beloved people once a year and blesses them with prosperity and happiness. 

The celebrations also featured traditional games such as Uriyadi and Kamba Vali, which created an atmosphere of excitement and merriment among the students and staff. These traditional games provided a wonderful opportunity for the younger generation to experience and enjoy the cultural practices associated with Onam. 

A sumptuous and traditional Onam Sadya was arranged for the students and staff. Everyone enjoyed the delicious feast and experienced the warmth and togetherness that are integral to the spirit of Onam. 

The celebration was not merely a day of fun and entertainment but also an enriching cultural experience for the students. It helped them understand, appreciate, and cherish the rich traditions, values, customs, and cultural heritage of Kerala. The spirit of sharing, unity, harmony, and togetherness that characterises Onam was beautifully reflected throughout the celebration. 

The Onam celebration at Amrita Vidyalayam, Koyilandy, was indeed a colourful, joyful, and memorable occasion, leaving everyone with cherished memories and a renewed appreciation for the beautiful cultural heritage of Kerala.
