Amrita Vidyalayam Senior Secondary School, Ramanathapuram, organized a POCSO Awareness Programme for its teaching and non-teaching staff with the objective of strengthening awareness about child protection and promoting a safe, secure, and child-friendly school environment.
The programme was conducted by Adv. S. Noorul Ameen and Adv. K. Jothiga from Government Law College, Ramanathapuram, who served as the resource persons. They conducted informative sessions on the Protection of Children from Sexual Offences (POCSO) Act, 2012, covering its objectives, key provisions, legal responsibilities of educational institutions, and the importance of protecting children's rights.
The resource persons emphasized the crucial role of teachers and school staff in identifying possible signs of abuse, ensuring timely reporting, maintaining confidentiality, and providing a safe and supportive environment for children. They also explained the mandatory reporting requirements under the Act, preventive measures, and the importance of maintaining professional boundaries and ethical conduct while interacting with students.
The programme concluded with an interactive question-and-answer session, enabling participants to clarify their queries regarding the implementation of the POCSO Act and child protection practices within schools.
The awareness programme was highly informative and reinforced the collective responsibility of every member of the school community in ensuring the safety, dignity, and well-being of every child.
