World Bicycle Day was celebrated with great enthusiasm and a strong focus on life skills at Amrita Vidyalayam, Palakkad. The programme aimed to promote the importance of cycling as an eco-friendly, healthy, and sustainable mode of transport while equipping students with practical bicycle maintenance and safety skills.
A resource person was invited to conduct an engaging hands-on session for the students. The highlight of the programme was the skill-based demonstration that introduced students to essential bicycle care and road safety practices. Students learned how to properly pump air into bicycle tyres, fix a slipped chain, and carry out basic maintenance checks to ensure a smooth and safe ride.
Students were trained in safe bicycle parking practices, road safety measures, and the significance of following traffic rules while riding. The interactive demonstrations encouraged active participation, enabling students to gain confidence in handling minor bicycle-related issues independently.
The celebration served as a valuable learning experience, fostering self-reliance, responsibility, and awareness about sustainable transportation. Through this practical and informative programme, students understood that cycling is not only a means of recreation and fitness but also a life skill that contributes to personal well-being and environmental conservation.
The celebration also highlighted the role of bicycles in creating a pollution-free environment and building a greener, healthier planet. Students were made aware that choosing a bicycle over fuel-powered vehicles for short distances helps reduce air pollution, conserve natural resources, and decrease carbon emissions. Through discussions and demonstrations, they understood how simple lifestyle choices can contribute significantly to protecting Mother Earth.
The message of environmental stewardship resonated deeply with Amma's inspiring words: "Nature is our first teacher. Protecting and preserving nature is our sacred duty, for the well-being of all living beings and future generations." This profound thought served as a reminder that every small action towards conserving nature helps create a healthier and more harmonious world.
