Amrita Vidyalayam, Haripad, celebrated the 80th Independence Day of India with great patriotic fervour, enthusiasm and pride on 15 August 2026. The celebration was a fitting tribute to the sacrifices of our freedom fighters and a reminder of the values of unity, courage and service to the nation.

The programme commenced with the hoisting of the National Flag by the chief guest Commandant Sreekumar G (Retd), followed by the National Anthem. The gathering was then formally welcomed with an introduction by Anusree Ma’am. The ceremonial lighting of the lamp marked the auspicious beginning of the celebrations, followed by a prayer seeking blessings for the nation and its people.

As the month of Karkidakam, traditionally associated with the reading of the Ramayana, was being observed, Ramayana Parayanam formed a meaningful part of the programme. The welcome speech by Anju Udayan set the tone for the day's celebrations, followed by an inspiring Independence Day address highlighting the significance of freedom and our responsibilities as citizens.

A special Freedom Fighters Showcase presented by the Grade 2 and KG sections added colour and meaning to the celebration. The young learners came dressed as iconic personalities who contributed to India's freedom and nation-building, beautifully portraying the spirit of patriotism and sacrifice.

The March Past by the students reflected discipline, unity and confidence. The Chief Guest's address inspired the students to cherish the freedom we enjoy and to contribute positively towards the progress of the nation.

The cultural segment brought the celebrations alive with vibrant performances. The KG section presented a patriotic dance, while Ridhima captivated the audience with a patriotic song. Adithi S. of UKG D delivered a thoughtful speech, followed by a spirited patriotic song that filled the atmosphere with national pride.

The energetic Mass Drill and Aerobics performances showcased the students' discipline, coordination, enthusiasm and physical fitness. The programme concluded with the Vote of Thanks, followed by the Shanti Mantra, invoking peace and harmony, and the National Anthem, sung with a deep sense of pride and respect for the motherland.

The Independence Day celebration was a memorable occasion that brought together students and teachers in the spirit of patriotism, unity and gratitude. The programme beautifully reminded everyone that the freedom earned through the sacrifices of our heroes must be honoured by being responsible, compassionate and committed citizens of India.
